God and Elephants

There is an elephant
Who pins you to the ground
With his foot.
Pride is trying with all your might
To rise to your hands and knees
To rise to your feet. To believe
You can.

Epic fail. All your power can do
Is make you shake and sweat and strain
And grunt and scream.

But your position
Face down and flat
Will never change.

The humble man
Relaxes in the mud
And waits for the God of all creation
To whisper into the elephant’s ear:

“Enough.”
